Check all door and window seals, clear gutters and drains, and ensure proper drainage around the house. Test sump pumps if present and know where water shut-offs are located. Prepare sandbags or flood barriers if the area is prone to flooding. Trim overhanging branches that could fall during storms and secure outdoor furniture.
At move-in, note any existing damage (take photos) and inform the landlord immediately so you’re not held liable. At move-out, return the home in the same condition: clean thoroughly, fix any minor damage you caused, and ensure all items are returned. This way you should get your deposit back.

Renovation noise from neighbors is also common and allowed during specific hours (usually 9am-6pm on weekdays). Check if any major upgrading works are planned for your block before signing a lease.

Evaluate room sizes for current and future occupants, proximity to schools and family-friendly amenities, and whether the layout supports aging in place. Factor in the total cost of ownership including utilities, maintenance, and potential rent increases. Choose a location that balances space needs with commute convenience and community resources.
1-bedroom units offer better entertaining space than studios with separate living areas. However, overnight guests may need to use a sofa bed in the living room. Consider the bathroom situation - ensure guests don't need to go through your bedroom to access facilities. The kitchen size may limit your ability to cook for larger groups.
HDB estates often have nearby markets, food courts, clinics, schools, and community centers. Many have playgrounds, fitness corners, and resident committee activities. Check proximity to essential services, public transport, and whether the estate has active community programs that might interest you.
